E. Automatic Data Collection.
We or our third-party partners may collect Personal Information and de-identified information automatically when you use the Platform, such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address, user agent string (e.g., browser or device information), user settings, actions taken on the Platform, browser or device information, location information (including approximate location at derived from IP address or, as applicable, as otherwise allowed via your consent through the device’s operating system), and Internet service provider, for purposes such as analytics, machine-learning, security, and otherwise providing more streamlined/optimized, personalized, or relevant features and functionality on the Platform. F. Targeted Advertising.
If you are using the Platform on the Free Tier, you will be served advertisements while using the Platform. These advertisements are not personalized or targeted based on your account data or Personal Information. Maple does not share your Personal Information with advertisers for the purpose of targeting or personalizing advertisements served through the Platform, and does not use cookies or similar tracking technologies for advertising purposes.
If you are subscribed to any paid Subscription Tier, you will not be served advertisements while using the Platform.
While Maple does not engage in targeted or interest-based advertising, you may still encounter interest-based advertising from third-party networks operating independently at the device or browser level. For information on how to opt out of such third-party interest-based advertising, please see Section VI.C.
If you do not wish to be served advertisements while using the Platform, you may upgrade to any paid Subscription Tier. For more information about available Subscription Tiers and associated fees, please refer to Section III.D of the Terms of Service.
G. Your Opt-In to and Use of Certain Platform Features.
Certain features or offerings of ours through the Platform may collect and process your Personal Information in order for you to use such features or offerings, and some may require or request that you opt-in to use such features or offerings. For example, by using the Maple Inbox offering ("Maple Inbox") of the Platform, you authorize us to collect and store the emails that you and others using your Account send and receive through Maple Inbox, including without limitation the email addresses of the sender and recipients, the sender and recipient names (if included with such emails or email addresses), and the content, subject, and attachments of such emails, which may also include Personal Information.
Maple Inbox may also ask you if you wish to opt-in to optional features that utilize information from your emails (including without limitation Personal Information), including optional features powered by artificial intelligence such as Maple Fast and Maple Home (collectively, the "AI Features"). AI Features are developed in-house at Maple and facilitated by external third-party AI service providers, including OpenAI. When you use AI Features, we collect the information you choose to provide as inputs, as well as related contextual information from your use of the Platform, to generate outputs that assist you in using the Platform more effectively. AI Features may analyze tasks, messages, calendar data, household activity, and other Platform content at your direction. AI Features only process such information when you choose to use or enable them. AI Feature outputs are generated based on User inputs and available data. AI Features do not operate autonomously and do not take actions without User initiation or approval.
If you do not wish for us to collect and use your Personal Information through features such as Maple Inbox or AI Features, please do not use such features.
Opportunities Feature — Stage One: Scanning and Suggestion Generation.
The Platform also includes an AI-powered feature called "Opportunities" (the "Opportunities Feature"), which is available to all Users regardless of subscription tier. The Opportunities Feature operates differently from other AI Features in that it automatically and continuously scans data stored within your account — including your tasks, calendar entries, and meal planning information — to identify potential conflicts, scheduling overlaps, and areas where adjustments may benefit your household. This scanning is performed entirely on Maple's own servers using Maple's proprietary systems. No account data is transmitted to any third-party AI service provider during this stage.
The data scanned during this stage is data you have already provided to Maple and that is stored in Maple's database as part of your normal use of the Platform. This stage does not involve any new or additional data collection — it involves analysis of data already held by Maple on your behalf.
Suggestions identified during this stage are surfaced to you within the Platform for your review. Pending suggestions are stored transiently and are automatically deleted as soon as the underlying condition that gave rise to the suggestion no longer applies. Maple does not display a history of past suggestions to you at any time.
If you dismiss a suggestion, a record of that dismissed suggestion is retained in Maple's database on a per-account basis solely for the purpose of ensuring the same suggestion is not surfaced to you again. Dismissed suggestion records are not displayed to you and are not used for any other purpose. These records are permanently deleted upon deletion of your account. For more information about account deletion, please refer to Section X.
You retain full control over whether any action is taken based on any suggestion generated by the Opportunities Feature.
Opportunities Feature — Stage Two: User-Initiated Action.
The second stage of the Opportunities Feature is triggered only if and when you explicitly accept a suggestion presented to you within the Platform. Upon your acceptance, Maple will engage our third-party AI service provider, OpenAI, to execute on the accepted suggestion. In order to action upon the accepted suggestion accurately and in context, OpenAI may access relevant data within your account, which may include your tasks, calendar entries, meal planning information, and any other account data reasonably necessary to carry out the accepted suggestion.
By accepting an Opportunities suggestion, you expressly consent to the transmission of relevant account data to OpenAI for the purpose of executing that suggestion. OpenAI's processing of your data in this stage is governed by OpenAI's own terms of use and privacy policy, which we encourage you to review. Data is transmitted to OpenAI solely for the purpose of executing your accepted suggestion and is not used to train OpenAI's models.
You are not required to accept any suggestion generated by the Opportunities Feature. Each suggestion must be individually and explicitly accepted by you. Maple will not transmit your data to any third-party AI service provider in connection with the Opportunities Feature unless and until you explicitly accept a suggestion.
If you do not wish for your account data to be scanned by the Opportunities Feature, you should not use the Platform.

Pursuing our legitimate business interests such as research and development (including marketing research), direct marketing or advertising (subject to the terms set forth in this Privacy Policy), network and information security, and fraud prevention;

We may share your Personal Information with our third-party service providers (each, a “Service Provider”) who are only permitted to use that information to help us provide the Platform. This includes Service Providers that provide us with IT support, cloud hosting, customer service, analytics, identity verification, artificial intelligence and any other related services. These providers are authorized to use Personal Information only as a necessary to provide services to us.

AI Features are designed to help streamline the use of various tools and operations within the Platform. The Opportunities Feature scans your account data to identify potential conflicts, scheduling overlaps, and areas where adjustments may benefit your household, and engages our third-party AI service providers only when you explicitly accept a suggestion. For more information about how each of these features processes your data, please refer to Section III.G.
By using Maple AI Features or accepting an Opportunities suggestion, you consent to the processing of your Personal Information by us and our third-party AI service providers as described in this Privacy Policy. You may provide an input (prompt) to be processed by AI Features ("Input") and receive an output generated by our AI service providers and returned by Maple AI Features based on the Input you provided ("Output"). When you use AI Features, your Inputs and Outputs are your customer data ("Customer Data"). You are solely responsible for the development, content, operation, maintenance, and use of your Customer Data. In the context of the Opportunities Feature, Customer Data includes the account data transmitted to our third-party AI service providers upon your explicit acceptance of a suggestion, as well as any output generated by those providers in connection with executing that suggestion.
When you use AI Features or accept an Opportunities suggestion, your Inputs, Outputs, and relevant account data are processed by our third-party AI service providers solely to provide the requested functionality. We do not use such data to train generalized or non-personalized AI models unless explicitly disclosed to you, and we do not permit our third-party AI service providers to use your Personal Information to train their models.
In the event that Maple switches to a new third-party AI service provider or adds an additional third-party AI service provider, we will notify you by (a) sending an email notification to the email address associated with your account, and (b) updating this Privacy Policy to reflect the change. Certain Google user data such as Gmail message content or Calendar event details may be transferred to OpenAI’s API in order to extract or summarize relevant tasks, events, or information at the request of the user. This data is processed solely to fulfill user-requested features (e.g., organizing or parsing messages), and is not used by OpenAI or our app for training, improving or developing generalized AI or ML models.
Please note that, in the event we switch AI Providers, the data processing rules and interaction protocols will remain the same as described above. We will not provide notification to you about such switches.

To the extent Google, Facebook, or X operate such advertising independently of the Platform, please refer to the privacy and opt-out policies of those respective companies directly. Maple is not responsible for, and has no control over, whether opt-out preferences provided by these companies are honored.
You may also stop or restrict the placement of third-party cookie technologies on your device, or remove them, by adjusting your preferences as your browser or device permits.
